Under the bonnet is Mercedes-Benz's smooth 3.8-litre V8, coupled to the four-speed automatic transmission a combination that makes the 380SL a wonderfully relaxed grand tourer while retaining the engineering quality for which this generation of Mercedes-Benz became famous.
